U14 Panthers EBFA Div 5 of 8 – Lost 2-5 at home to Hearts of Teddlothian Falcons

Match Report from Manager Roland McGill:

We lost 5-2 in the end but we were right in the match until they scored 3 quick goals mid way through the second half. The wind made it hard on top of playing with 10 men for most of the game. We did score a couple of fine goals, Harry James (an overhead kick!!) and a cool finish from Senna Anagho. We had more chances but our keepers, Harry McGill and Rowan Sellman, made a load of really good saves to keep us in the match – hence joint man of the match to them.

Fifth placed Maidenhead came up against 6th placed Arborfield in this away match.

We had 4 of the squad unavailable so only 1 sub on the day and a couple of defenders out. Team was therefore Freddie Nash in goal, Kai Enser left back, Jake Stanley and Noah Sturrock in central defence and Thomas Watson right back. Ben Thompson left wing, Declan Pinto right wing and in central midfield Charlie Townsend, Tejas Chahal and Owen Smyth with Rhyce O’Connor up front. Josh Ewers started as sub.

Kick off 11.18am. Freddie collected ball. Jake won ball. Owen to Rhyce. Ben to Rhyce. Charlie good touch to play ball to wing. Their shot went just wide. We played the ball out from the back from Noah to Thomas. They were through on goal but pulled their shot just wide. Freddie save. Jake block. Noah huge clearance. Thomas throw at half way to Owen. They were ruled offside. Noah free kick to Owen. Kai won ball and went on run on left. Freddie save. Charlie’s shot was blocked. Kai to Ben. Noah great tackle which was praised as such by the opposition. Their shot went wide. Noah to Owen. Thomas header forward. Jake headed clearance.

Charlie good work. Stop in play while opposition sourced a replacement match ball. 11.32am Thomas throw to Tejas. Jake to Tejas to Owen. Freddie to Kai. Kai challenge at half way, their throw. Kai throw to Tejas and again. Thomas to Noah. Freddie save. Thomas throw to Declan. Jake and Kai good defending. Ben crossfield ball to Owen. Freddie to Declan to Owen. Thomas header forward. Noah to Thomas. Owen to Jake. Owen won ball and played it forward. Ben header to goalie. 11.50 Sub: Charlie off, Rhyce on. Josh won their throw in defence. Thomas first time ball up to Rhyce who took a good touch.

Drop ball to us. Freddie save. Their corner. Kai brilliant defending by corner flag for our goal kick. Ben and Declan swapped wings. Josh to Ben on right. Kai to Declan on left. Kai put out for throw. Owen long ball forward from defence. Ben to Owen. Jake header from defence. Tejas great run down right. Ben to Declan who put in a cross but goalie got. Kai to Thomas. Thomas ball forward. Rhyce won ball from goalie. Conceded 0-2 although unlucky as Freddie managed to get a hand to it.

2nd half goalie Freddie was sub as injured shoulder in warm-up but managed to get through to half time. Team therefore was Josh in goal, Charlie left back, Thomas and Noah central defence and Kai right back. Ben left wing, Declan right wing and central midfield Jake, Tejas and Owen with Rhyce up front.

2nd half 12.07pm. Owen free kick. Jake good work, our free kick. Owen took free kick. Declan foul throw. Jake great work and ball through their defence.

Charlie took corner from left. Noah to Declan. Kai won ball and played ball forward. Josh save. Kai nipped in and won ball. Owen took free kick. Thomas great header. Josh cleared. Josh to Kai. Kai battling. Jake to Kai. Owen played ball along line to Declan. Josh saved with his feet twice. 12.18. Noah cleared for corner. Kai to Declan. Jake tackle. Charlie corner from left and 12.20 Charlie corner from left again. Kai great battling. Jake won ball. Josh came out of goal to clear danger. Noah clearance. 12.24. Freddie on up front and Rhyce off. Ben corner to Declan.

Kai great turn and ball forward through their defence to Declan. Noah to Declan. Josh collected ball. Tejas to Declan. 12.28 Owen corner from right. Ben and Charlie swapped position but we swapped them back as didn’t want to waste Ben’s attacking pace in defence when we were 0-2 down. Tejas to Declan. Josh save with his feet. Josh save to turn shot wide. Thomas ball forward.

The 0-0 in the 2nd half was more indicative of the similar levels of both teams and really we were the victims of having to play quite a few players out of position today. We had had to put good midfielders in defence and then a striker in goal.

Man of the Match was Kai Enser. Special mention to Josh Ewers though who was a reluctant goalie in 2nd half but kept a clean sheet pulling off several saves with his feet!

The result put Arborfield within 1 point of us in the table with a game in hand. Both teams have 6 wins and 5 defeats but we also have had a draw. Incidentally the top 2 teams are currently tied on 33 points and 3rd and 4th teams are tied on 30 points.

Match report from Manager Roland McGill:

A good 7-2 win today against Holyport. We continued our fine form from last week and I think the first half today was the best we’ve played all season. With a great first half hat-trick from Harry James, one from Rowan Sellman and Harry Willett’s first of the season (from way outside the box) we went into half-time comfortably in the lead 5-1. Holyport upped their game in the second half and quickly pulled one back but a flying header from Callum Neeson-Roberts and a sharp turn and shot from Senna Anagho rounded the game off nicely. 7-2 in the end. Defence was solid and Eesa Sharif didn’t put a foot or hand wrong in goal.

Well done boys. Man of the Match was easy today Harry James was on fire. I lost count of how many players he beat for that cracking goal.

Team was Freddie Nash in goal, Jack Clews left back, Spencer Rigg-Hersom and Noah Sturrock central defence with Thomas Watson right back, Declan Pinto left wing, Owen Smyth right wing with Jake Stanley, Tejas Chahal and Ben Thompson centre midfield and Josh Ewers up front. Starting subs Hisham Nadeem, Rhyce O’Connor and Lucas Taylor.

2nd half 13.05. Freddie in goal, Thomas left back, Jack and Noah central defence, Lucas right back, Owen left wing, Hisham right wing, Tejas, Jake and Declan central midfield with Josh up front. Subs: Ben, Spencer and Rhyce.

My Man of the Match was Freddie Nash for a series of good saves and for saving a penalty.

I’ve been at many games where the tide has turned but not sure I’ve ever been at a game where we have been 3-0 up and then lost 3-5. All the boys played some good stuff but we just didn’t seem to be able to string enough passes together and kept giving possession away too cheaply.

Back to winning ways with a commanding 11-1 win away at Caversham. We dominated from start to finish and the boys played some really slick football and scored some great goals. Scorers: Harry James 5, Rowan Sellman 3, Callum Neeson-Roberts 2 and Ollie Myall 1. Lots of passing, dribbling, tackling and talking to each other. Eesa Sharif was Man of the Match for another strong CDM performance – he’s improving every week there.
