Fifth placed Maidenhead came up against 6th placed Arborfield in this away match.
We had 4 of the squad unavailable so only 1 sub on the day and a couple of defenders out. Team was therefore Freddie Nash in goal, Kai Enser left back, Jake Stanley and Noah Sturrock in central defence and Thomas Watson right back. Ben Thompson left wing, Declan Pinto right wing and in central midfield Charlie Townsend, Tejas Chahal and Owen Smyth with Rhyce O’Connor up front. Josh Ewers started as sub.
Kick off 11.18am. Freddie collected ball. Jake won ball. Owen to Rhyce. Ben to Rhyce. Charlie good touch to play ball to wing. Their shot went just wide. We played the ball out from the back from Noah to Thomas. They were through on goal but pulled their shot just wide. Freddie save. Jake block. Noah huge clearance. Thomas throw at half way to Owen. They were ruled offside. Noah free kick to Owen. Kai won ball and went on run on left. Freddie save. Charlie’s shot was blocked. Kai to Ben. Noah great tackle which was praised as such by the opposition. Their shot went wide. Noah to Owen. Thomas header forward. Jake headed clearance.

Thomas first time ball up to Rhyce who took a good touch.

Thomas ball forward. Rhyce won ball from goalie. Conceded 0-2 although unlucky as Freddie managed to get a hand to it.
2nd half goalie Freddie was sub as injured shoulder in warm-up but managed to get through to half time. Team therefore was Josh in goal, Charlie left back, Thomas and Noah central defence and Kai right back. Ben left wing, Declan right wing and central midfield Jake, Tejas and Owen with Rhyce up front.
2nd half 12.07pm. Owen free kick. Jake good work, our free kick. Owen took free kick. Declan foul throw. Jake great work and ball through their defence.
Charlie took corner from left. Noah to Declan. Kai won ball and played ball forward. Josh save. Kai nipped in and won ball. Owen took free kick. Thomas great header. Josh cleared. Josh to Kai. Ben and Charlie swapped position but we swapped them back as didn’t want to waste Ben’s attacking pace in defence when we were 0-2 down. Tejas to Declan. Josh save with his feet. The 0-0 in the 2nd half was more indicative of the similar levels of both teams and really we were the victims of having to play quite a few players out of position today. We had had to put good midfielders in defence and then a striker in goal.
Man of the Match was Kai Enser. Special mention to Josh Ewers though who was a reluctant goalie in 2nd half but kept a clean sheet pulling off several saves with his feet!
The result put Arborfield within 1 point of us in the table with a game in hand. Both teams have 6 wins and 5 defeats but we also have had a draw. Incidentally the top 2 teams are currently tied on 33 points and 3rd and 4th teams are tied on 30 points.
