Report from Manager Roland McGill:

Back to winning ways with a commanding 11-1 win away at Caversham. We dominated from start to finish and the boys played some really slick football and scored some great goals. Scorers: Harry James 5, Rowan Sellman 3, Callum Neeson-Roberts 2 and Ollie Myall 1. Lots of passing, dribbling, tackling and talking to each other. Eesa Sharif was Man of the Match for another strong CDM performance – he’s improving every week there.

Man of the Match was goalscorer Owen Smyth.

This was a game we should have won but Ashridge probably had their best game of the season with the goalie in outstanding form. Before this game Ashridge didn’t have a point to their name and had conceded 34 goals in 5 games and scored 5. They were totally gutted to lose 2 points in the last minute of the game. This was not a good performance from us, though we did improve in the second half. We need to up our game for next Saturday as we then play the top team Hearts of Teddlothian Cheetahs who have a 100% record 7 wins from 7 and have scored 58 goals and conceded just 10.

Not our best performance today and a draw was a fair result. Our goals came from an own goal and 2 from Senna Anagho but it wasn’t enough. The game was locked at 3-3 for the last hour but neither side could get the ball in the net from an onside position. We definitely lacked composure on the ball today – something to work on at training. Difficult to pick a man of the match but it goes to Bailey Hayward for some timely interceptions.

This league game was rescheduled as both teams had byes in the first round of the league cup but the home pitches were full with home cup ties so we played it as an away game instead at Berks County Sports Ground. Wayne Welch ran the team on the day.

Kick off 9am. Freddie Nash in goal. Thomas Watson left back, Spencer Rigg-Hersom centre back, Lucas Taylor right back with Noah Sturrock sweeper in front of defence. Owen Smyth left wing, Declan Pinto right wing with Ben Thompson, Jake Stanley and Kai Enser central midfield and Josh Ewers up front. Subs were Tejas Chahal and Charlie Townsend. Hisham Nadeem was out injured with an ankle sprain. Jack Clews was sub when he eventually arrived nearly 30mins after kick off!

Their shot hit our post. Declan scored 09.09 1-0. Their free kick, when referee deemed that Spencer had passed back to the keeper when he was shielding the ball for our goalie to collect when under pressure from their forward, which they equalized from 1-1 09.14. The team were strangely below par today given last week’s excellent performance but only lost by one goal so hopefully next time we meet this team we can do ourselves justice. Wayne chose Declan Pinto as Player of the Match.

Match Report – U14 Panthers v Finchampstead Chargers

U14 Panthers EBFA Div 6 of 8 – Won 5-4 at home to Finchampstead Chargers in League Cup knockout match

Well I think that was one of our best ever performances today. We had 10 players first half and 9 in the second half, up against a well organized and competitive Finchampstead side (who played with 11). We made some changes due to numbers and Harry McGill leaving his boots at school. But the whole team gelled quickly and from the off we looked like we had a good chance. Senna Anagho scored the first after Callum Neeson-Roberts won the ball in defence and threaded an incisive pass to him. Finchamsptead scored direct from a free kick a minute later but within a couple of minutes Harry James put us back in front with Callum Neeson-Roberts assisting again. Rowan Sellman scored a cracker from long distance with his left foot – it wasn’t a cross!!! Harry McGill made amends for losing his boots by pulling off a one handed diving save from another free kick. 3-1 at half time.

Finchampstead pulled it back to 3-2 at the start of the second half and when Harry James departed it could’ve gone awry. But Senna Anagho go another to give us some breathing space. However Finchampstead scored 2 to level it at 4-4 with 10mins to go. Credit to the boys as their heads did not go down. It was a very nervy time for us watching, never mind the boys playing. Senna Anagho completed his hat-trick after great work by Rowan Sellman – 5-4 up. Last few minutes were nail biting but the boys hung on to win. Not sure I could’ve coped with penalties!!

A real team effort today with really determined performances all over the park. Man of the Match to Callum Neeson-Roberts for really stepping up as centre half – 2 assists, umpteen tackles and interceptions and really led the defence well but really well done to all.

Today’s performance was a pleasure to watch with all the boys playing well. Along with their improved match fitness now that we were playing our 3rd league match of the season, the passing play had improved significantly. Also some of the skills and touches were a delight to see. In my opinion the talented Owen Smyth had his best game for us so far as on top of his undoubted skill he improved his end product with much better interplay with his team-mates. All the team played well. So much so that the subs were sometimes reluctant to come on when the team on the pitch was playing so well! However, my Man of the Match went to Thomas Watson making his debut for the team and proving himself a valuable addition to the squad.

Following our 2 consecutive wins, the Colts moved into joint 4th out of 11 teams after 3 games in Division 6.

Maidenhead U13 Dragons Boys v Sandhurst Town U13 Reds

Maidenhead U13 Dragons 5 v Sandhurst Town U13 Reds 3

It could have been tough coming into the game following last weeks defeat but some focused training, a few position changes and 100% input from all players and today’s match against sandhurst was a very different story.

A lack of attention in the first half lead to two quick goals for sandhurst which was completely against the run of play and heads could have dropped but spirits remained high and Dragons kept applying pressure.

The second half started similar to the first with Dragons dominating possession. The break through finally came. Gabe ran through and similar to last week struck a right foot shot from distance to make it 1-2. Further persistence in midfield from Stan allowed him to run clean through and convert a low powerful shot for 2-2.

The third for Dragons came from the right with a deep cross from Noah which was met at the far post with an accurate header from Matthew. A great goal with a great celebration. 3-2

Dragons seemed to back off a little once they were in the lead and it wasn’t long before sandhurst levelled. 3-3.

But again Dragons heads didn’t go down. They remained positive with good pressure from Morgan and Tom.

There was some nice play in midfield between Tom and Stan.

For the next goal Stan took the ball from an Owen goal kick and released a through ball to Gabe who ran through and scored a low shot to make it 4-3.

Joshua pushing up front was rewarded with a simple tap in and great celebrations!

Today’s defence was strong with effective tackles and clearances from Curtis and Jay at Fullbacks. Brett made a number of strong clearances with his headers and Matthew was calm and composed for the second week running.

Noah’s throw ins are proving very effective and Owen pulled off some strong saves.

A great victory but more important great attitude from everyone.

Starting subs Charlie Townsend and Freddie Nash with Jack Clews sub when he arrived which was 10mins after kick off!

Declan laid the ball back to Hisham whose shot looked to be curling in at the top right corner of the goal but the goalie managed to save it. Kai to Noah. Freddie diving save. Hisham kept ball in and played it to Ben. Ben shot was dipping at goal but just missed. 10.17 Josh on up front and Kai off. 10.18 Josh scored 1-1 to equalize with a cracking goal. Freddie save. Then 10.19 Josh scored from the right with another cracking shot from the right which seemed to come out of nowhere to take us from losing to winning with 2 goals in 2 mins! 10.20 Sub: Jake off, Tejas on. Man of the Match was sealed for Josh Ewers as soon as he scored his second. What a revelation he was as a striker and he had never played in that position for us before. He’s probably made the position his own now though!

The boys were really disappointed not to win, especially after playing so well and Jack was gutted not to have scored the penalty.

Although it was only about 10 degrees when we arrived the sun was out and it felt during the match like it had warmed up to nearly 20 degrees.

We had 12 players for this away game: Freddie Nash in goal, Jack Clews left back, Josh Ewers and Noah Sturrock central defence and Lucas Taylor right back. Kai Enser left wing, Ben Thompson right wing, with Declan Pinto, Maverick Afonso and Jake Stanley central midfield and Owen Smyth up front. Charlie Townsend started as sub.

Kick off 10.41am. Nice passing move from Maidenhead starting from the back. Jake to Kai. Noah cleared for throw. Noah took free kick. Noah header. Owen great skills and our throw which Jack took. Declan header to Ben who went on run. Ben run and Ben shot which keeper nearly spilled. Jack good defending. 10.46 conceded 0-1 to an excellent top left corner shot which Freddie nearly managed to get to. Jake to Declan to Maverick. Owen ball into box. Kai great work and ball forward for Ben. Ben throw on left up front. Jack in for decisive header. Lucas won ball and played it forward. Foul on Ben at half way line and Noah took free kick. Owen run and shot which was collected by keeper with Kai and Ben in great positions at far post. Lucas run in to defend for Freddie to collect ball. Owen run, Jake cross/shot, our corner. 10.53 Jack corner but it went behind goal. Maverick to Declan who played ball through their defence. Jack throw to Kai. 2nd half: Freddie in goal, Jack left back, Josh and Noah central defence, Lucas right back, Ben on left, Owen on right, Kai, Declan and Maverick central midfield with Charlie up front. Sub Jake.

11.28 2nd half started. Their free kick on edge of area but Jack blocked it. 11.31 Ben equalized 1-1. Jack corner. Lucas throw. Owen great cross into box. Lucas throws on right. Jack good clearance. Man of the Match went to Declan Pinto. All of the boys played better 2nd half as once we equalized you could see them start to believe they could win and started playing with more energy, momentum and purpose. I said to them after the game that if they could just start the game each week with the mentality as if they had just equalized then they could win matches 5-0.

This win made it 3 wins out of 4 in April with the other game being a narrow 1-2 defeat in this small Group 12 and our 2nd 2-1 win against Sandhurst this month.
